ArticleJob Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to join our reinsurance team. The role involves evaluating and pricing reinsurance risks, negotiating terms with brokers and cedants, and ensuring profitable growth within the company’s underwriting guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to build and maintain strong client and broker relationships, contributing to the overall success and stability of our reinsurance portfolio.
Job Scope:
• Assess, analyze, and underwrite treaty and/or facultative reinsurance submissions.
• Evaluate risk exposures, loss history, and modeling outputs to determine appropriate pricing and terms.
• Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and cedants to secure profitable business.
• Maintain and develop relationships with clients, brokers, and business partners.
• Monitor and manage the performance of assigned accounts and portfolio.
• Prepare underwriting reports, presentations, and documentation for internal approval processes.
• Collaborate with actuarial, claims, finance, and risk management teams to ensure sound decision-making.
• Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape.
• Support strategic initiatives and contribute to business development opportunities.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
• Professional insurance/reinsurance qualification (e.g., CII, CPCU, ARe) is an advantage.
• Experience in reinsurance/insurance underwriting (treaty or facultative).
• Strong knowledge of reinsurance products, structures, and underwriting principles.
• Experience with pricing models, exposure management tools, and catastrophe modeling is desirable.
Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and long-term relationships.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of underwriting systems is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong business acumen and market awareness.
